Finding Success in Remarketing Returns
by: Stephen Sikes
You may have seen some of the liquidation websites out there and have wondered just how you could find financial success in the arena of selling retail returns
Items that have been returned to a store can no longer be sold as new, but in many cases are just as a good as new. That means if you know what to buy and how to buy it, you can take advantage of this chance to purchase some great items at low prices and make a good profit on sales.
Before you jump into the liquidation and return sales market, you need to ask yourself a few questions and know what you will be able to sell.
What is your market?
While you may be able to find great deals on all sorts of items in the returns liquidation market, many at far below wholesale prices, you also need to know that you will be able to sell those items to your customers. Many people get so excited at the deal they don’t look past it to the reality of their sales.
What are your costs?
You need to have a good idea of what you can comfortably spend on a new type of product for your customers. Most liquidation and return lots are very large, often a pallet that is loaded with boxes of merchandise. While you may be able to get a great price per item, the overall price of the pallet may be a lot of money and you need to make sure you have the money for those return items as well as to keep the rest of your business going.
Are your sales flexible?
It's important to remember that liquidation and return sales items are not always the same from shipment to shipment. If you need to be able to offer your customers the same things every time they come around, you may need to look into wholesale markets instead. But if your customers like to see new sales and deals every time they come around, liquidation and return items may be perfect for you.
Do you know the company you are working with?
As you consider making a liquidation and retail returns purchase from a company, you should take into account how much you know about that company. If this is a new relationship, look around to see if you can find reviews of them online. It is important to note that some of all liquidation and return shipments will be items that are just waste and cannot be sold. While this is expected, you don’t want the percentage of these useless items to be too high.
Once you find a company that offers you a lot of higher quality return and liquidation items without too much waste, keep a good relationship going with them so you will always have first pick of the new items they have for sale.
