Many people are looking into side jobs or additional sources of income because of the tough economic times. It seems that everything has gone up in price recently from gas to power to food. Many families that were barely eeking by before are now having a very tough time keeping their heads above water.

If you are one of these families that are looking for a new way to make a little more money, you may want to consider starting a wholesale business.

Sell What You Use

Before you jump into any sort of business venture, you should think about the types of items your family uses on a regular basis. These are the types of things you should consider selling in your business. After all, if you need these items, why wouldn't other families need them as well? Additionally, if they are hard to find items for you, they may be hard to find for other families, so if you do the research into a way to buy them wholesale, and resell them to others, you may have found a strong niche market.

No Piled up Inventory

One of the benefits of selling something your family will use is that you will not be caught up with too much inventory and none of it moving. In a worst case scenario, you may have some extra inventory, but if it is of items that your family will use anyways, you will be able to periodically pull what you need from the shelves, making the stock go down and down.

Save on the Family Budget

By selling items your family needs, you will be able to also save on your family's budget. Since you would have paid retail for these items in the past, now getting them at a wholesale pricing will mean a good chunk of money back in your pocket, instead of being spent on the retail price of the same items. This is one way to lessen your household expenses, while also making more money from your other company, profiting on many of these same items through your sales.

Pay Your Taxes

The important thing to remember when it comes to these wholesale items is that you need to pay your taxes on the ones you use. When you purchase wholesale to resell to the public at retail prices, you have to charge the public any appropriate state taxes. If you are going to use these items yourself, you still have to pay those taxes. This means you need to make a note on your state tax return and make sure to pay your portion of taxes to the authorities when they come due.
